True to form, it's raining on spring day in Cape Town. Oh well, if you live in Cape Town you know that spring takes a little while to say goodbye to winter... and in any case, we can do with the rain after the mild, dry winter. So put on your gumboots and make a splash!

Remember Zanele's old house? Well, you won't recognise it - when she moved to her new plot, her son, Lubabalo, moved into her old house, and transformed the front section into an ubercool fruit & veg shop. On the hunt for some beautiful wool for a new range of coats, I popped into SA Fine Worsted, tradtionally Cape Town's Mecca for beautiful wool fabrics. ... Only to find out that they are yet another local textile factory that is closing down. In fact, the factory is already closed and the factory shop is only open for a couple more days. So if you want to stock up on some never-to-be-repeated bargains, pop in to their factory shop in 7th Ave, Kensington.
Personally, I'd prefer to pay a bit more and know they will be around in the future...

To celebrate the re-opening of Chapman's peak pass - the most beautiful road in the whole world (that's a fact!) - we went for a little walk above the pass on Sunday. it's going to be an awesome summer, I know it.

Of late we have been riveted by the thrilling daily installment of our neighbour's pincushion bush. It sure beats watching the soapies! The Leucospermum conocarpodendron is one of our fynbos treasures, and it grows wild on the mountainside where I live.
Do yourself a favour and learn that word. Leucospermum conocarpodendron. Your friends will be impressed.

Niki and I attended a brilliant screen-printing workshop at Fittees in Woodstock on Saturday. You can bring one design with you that they expose on a screen. Then they teach you the ins and outs of screen-printing onto t-shirts, etc. You can also buy t-shirts from them if you want. I printed my King Queen Jackson print onto white organic T-s, which are now on sale in the shop.
The next workshop is on 22 August and the cost is R380. They also provide DELICOUS snacks. And if you ask him nicely, Stephen will do some tricks on his bike for you. If you're interested, mail them on info@fittees.com.

After two wonderfully mild weeks, all the rain that should have been falling from the sky finally did - all at once. Roads have washed away, rivers burst their banks and houses and offices everywhere have beautiful buckets on display to cope with the leaks. Pictured is our little pond, stream, and brand new waterfall!
The sunniest news is that my eldest, Daniel, is back home after five months as an exchange student in Munich. Boy, did I miss him and, boy, has he grown, in so many ways!

Tonight is officially the shortest night of the year and only the bravest dog lovers were out on Hout Bay beach this afternoon. We have six days of rainy weather predicted, and experience has taught me that the second half of winter lasts MUCH longer than the first half, but still. But still.
