Just because blog entries have been a bit scarce, I thought I'd do two today. The stormy winds blew these lovelies into our loft this week.

Mawethu sewed up this cube today. It was a special order for a US customer. I love the fact that if you look at it from the one side, you see a "rosette" cube, and from the other it looks like a patchwork with different sides (the hidden fifth side is beige with pink polka dots)

Today there was loads of laughter... and the odd bit of gurgling, squealing and crying in our loft. The little pudding at the bottom is Fezeka's baby - remember her? The sleeping baby is Sentiwe's grandchild.

We put these beautiful wrap skirts into the shop today. The colourful trim detail is from bits of african wax print fabric, collected wherever I could find it, sometimes from traders from Congo, Zambia and Malawi; sometimes from local stores that service local expat african communities. I love the imagery - shoes, playstation consoles, fish, umbrellas, cockerels, you name it. The main fabric is a soft denim and the pleated trim and pocket lining are in contrasting tafeta. One size fits all.

To celebrate the re-opening of Chapman's peak pass - the most beautiful road in the whole world (that's a fact!) - we went for a little walk above the pass on Sunday. it's going to be an awesome summer, I know it.

These beautiful cushions woven by Sheila, our cushion queen, made Marina jump for joy. We'll pop them into the shop on Monday.

We recently popped this Magnolia wrap dress in our shop - perfect for the in-between weather Cape Town is so well known for. Made with beautiful drapey viscose lycra, it's available in aubergine and black. And each dress comes with a free felt brooch, hand-felted by Lungi and Thembisa.

Thursday is sebenza (work) day at Mielie, when we see all our weavers. It's busy. It's noisy. It's messy. It rocks.
Capetonians, don't forget about the organic market at Montebello tomorrow morning. We have some beautiful baby fennel in - delicious just steamed with a blob of creme fraiche and black pepper.
