After two wonderfully mild weeks, all the rain that should have been falling from the sky finally did - all at once. Roads have washed away, rivers burst their banks and houses and offices everywhere have beautiful buckets on display to cope with the leaks. Pictured is our little pond, stream, and brand new waterfall!
The sunniest news is that my eldest, Daniel, is back home after five months as an exchange student in Munich. Boy, did I miss him and, boy, has he grown, in so many ways!

Felicia sported this head-turning hairstyle and outfit at Mielie yesterday. Felicia weaves beautiful bags and also runs a little phone shop in Khayelitsha. She has two children.

We went to blues guitarist/singer Dan Patlansky's concert last night. I think I'll rather give you pictures than words to pay hommage to this 26-year-old's talent. If you love the blues, do yourself a favour and go - he's still performing in Cape Town tonight and tomorrow night.

Wednesday is the day we go to the food garden in Khayelitsha. While we were mucking in, this little bundle passed us by, tightly swaddled on her mum's back. The white on her face is calamine lotion, which makes a very effective sunscreen.

The latest edition of the newly relaunched HandEye magazine features our Mielie fluffball and an interview with me. The issue focuses on craft from Africa and is jam packed with beautiful photos of both innovative and traditional crafts and materials.

This little blog celebrated its first birthday on Sunday and I only realised it today! Wow, it's been so much fun. Thank you, loyal blog readers for your wonderful comments, your support, and for reading Mielie Peeps. (A thought - if a blog = a weB LOG, then is a Blog rEADER a bleader?) Also special thanks the Mielie dream team: Malibongwe, Marina, Mzo, Nolundi, Nomthunzi, Sheila and Zanele for their hard word and their ever-willingness to help.
So much has happened in this year - we established the Mielie food garden, and a not-for-profit Foundation dedicated to improving the lives of people who need it. We developed Mielie's homeware range, exhibited at some prestigious exhibitions and traveled and spread the Mielie Love far and wide.
I can't wait to see what next year brings.!

Presenting Phumza and her performing penguins! Remember the pic of the weird blobs I posted on Monday? Well the weavers turned them into penguin purses today. Now they only need to be folded in half and stitched closed.
