These beaut bags are bouncing their way to Germany, host of the world cup in 2006.

The 2010 soccer world cup kicks of in South Africa in exactly one year's time. To celebrate this auspicious day - and the well known fact that Cape Town is THE coolest place on earth, a couple of enterprising locals have organised a really special exhibition called Top of the World. The idea is to turn the whole world upside-down to prove that Cape Town is, well, IT.
The venue for the exhibition is the Green Point Stadium, which is currently being rebuilt. We were invited to submit, and I'm pleased to say that our piece, the upside-down world that Mzo and Bongs are holding, was sold at the opening. The ball on the left also bounced into our lives today and just begged to be included in the picture. How can one say no.
In case you didn't know, luduuuuuma! is what you scream when your team scores - try it!

Remember the little red squirrel I made from an old single glove? Well, he's going on a big adventure with Deon, my husband. They are participating in the Ride to Rhodes, a 550km six-day mountain bike event that takes entrants to some of the most beautiful and remote parts of the country.
We christened the squirrel Dusty because we're hoping that he will come home Dusty, and not Muddy. Of all the challenges he'll face, Deon is the most nervous about the weather. It's been snowing and bitterly cold in the region for the past couple of days. Luckily he's got all the rain and cold gear he needs. And Dusty has promised to keep him company all the way.
The best part is that Deon is raising funds for the Mielie Food garden at the same time! So we'll be delighted if you want to sponsor him a small amount per kilometer. More details at Deon's blog.

Don't you just love it when this happens - you're cruising on the highway, minding your own business when far ahead of you you spot it. A pickup truck absolutely loaded to capacity with brightly coloured cooldrink bottles, each one jingling merrily all the way from the local cooldrink factory to its destined party, wedding or school fair. In a world dominated by huge multinational soda companies it's a relief to know that the little guys - the Coo-ees, the Bashews, the Marshalls - have survived... and long may they continue!
It's probably a sign that I still have some growing up to do, but every time an airplane flies right over my head, I have to gasp for breath.
Oh, and in case you were worried, I was the passenger, not the driver when I snapped these!

This weekend we had a house full of 13-year-olds. In spite of the fact that they all spoke at the same time ALL the time, they managed to print these rather fetching t-shirts from paper screens that they cut themselves.

I can't believe how beautifully our leafy veggies at the Mielie Food Garden have grown in just six weeks! Yesterday we celebrated our first harvest with delicious cheese and salad burgers. As I closed my eyes and sank my teeth into my burger, I thought back about the day that I casually said to Zanele, "Wouldn't it be wonderful to start a food garden in Khayelitsha?" "Let's do it," she replied, not hesitating for a second.
A specially big thank-you goes to Annemarie, always full of ideas, advice and never afraid to dig her hands elbow deep in the manure!

At Mielie we work with a fantastic team of distributors who spread the love to the far corners of the world and I thought I'd give you a little Mielie World update.
Kapworks, our European distributor has just launched their beautiful new Mielie website. Marcus and especially Anke have put loads of work into the site, and it shows.

Carol Lovell, our hard-working distributor in the UK has been getting great publicity for Mielie, most recently this beautiful shoot in SHE magazine, UK.

I'm bursting to tell you more, but the rest is top secret and you'll just have to wait!

We're sending off a beautiful shipment to Nadine of Be Sweet, our hardworking US distributor today. It's been very hard to say goodbye to these beautiful rainbow stacking floor cushions. The idea is that when not in use, they form a sculptural piece in the corner of your lounge.

We recently visited Heather Moore of Skinny Laminx's beautiful studio, which she shares with two artists. Heather is an illustrator and the brains behind Skinny Laminx, a beautiful range of fabrics that Heather makes up into homeware items and sells by the meter. Oh, and did I mention she's also an award-winning blogger? I love her blog as much for its inspiring imagery as for her witty musings.
Thanks Heather!

Thanks so much to everyone who sent in recipes - they all sounded so delicious that we've decided to compile a little recipe book to sell at the Organic market on Friday morning.
I tried out a couple of recipes, but there wasn't time to prepare them all, so the judges (ahem!) had to also use their imagination.
Drumroll... And the winners are:
- Carolyn for her Asian Baby Cabbage Salad
- Antonia for her Pasta Salad
- Patricia for her Grilled Vegetables
And then we decided that Mike's Mielie (corn) recipe also deserved a special Poet/Chef award.
Congratulations to you all! Now please contact me so that you can choose your design.
Have a great weekend everyone!
